Damnit I wasn't finished. Click-clickety-click-click. [img]graemlins/whatever.gif[/img] Bah, it's two in the morning on Saturday night and I'm pissin' 'round on the computer, basically talking out of my ass.

Anyways, I don't even remember how I became interested in filmmaking. However, I was always, always obsessed with visuals and I spent entire pads of white paper drawing everything that came to my mind. Unfortunately, I'm also an extreme perfectionist, and 95% of my stuff usually ends up unfinished, either due to lack of interest or my own self-defeating neurosis.

I made this point a while a go and got yelled at, but i'm gonna make it again.
all film is nothing more than entertainment, and thats why its so beautiful. sure it can be art/philosophy/issue related, but it all boils down to keeping our minds off our own problems. Or dealing with them. Escapism is the greatest thing we artists have to give to the world. It serves me fine.
But i'd like to serve myself. and others. so i make films.

And then there are films that aspire to be nothing more than entertainmnet - and can't even do that.

I do appreciate movies that want nothing more than to entertain, though...

...I grew up on some of those films.

If someone only wants to make entertanment - that's fine. Noting wrong with that at all.

Film is simply another means of communication. And you can communicate whatver you want.

The thing is, it's not all black and white. It's all a big gray area. You can entertain and stimulate the intellect at the same time. It's just easier said than done.

I think THREE KINGS is a good example of thought-provoking entertainment.

And ONE DAY IN SEPTEMBER is a documentary about the 1972 Munich Olympic games where Palestinian terrorists held a group of Israeli athletes hostage. The makers of this film attempt to make it entertaining, and it is, but I think at times they went too far. Sometimes the entertainment is a bit insensitive and exploitative.

But I still recommend it.

You should check out a doc called CINEMANIA. It's about five film-fanatics who are so obsessed with movies they program their bowel movements to co-ordinate with viewing time.
